Aldridge Gardens

Since Aldridge Gardens opened in 2002, the 30-acre former property of well-known horticulturist Eddie Aldridge and his wife Kay has become a popular attraction in the greater Birmingham area. Our garden showcases hydrangeas, including the Snowflake Hydrangea, which was patented by Mr. Aldridge and is now the official flower of the City of Hoover.

The Gardens host plant sales, art exhibits and shows, classes and seminars, bird walks, fishing days and more. Other features include an event venue and gallery in the couple’s former home, an education building, an outdoor pavilion, a five-acre lake and a half-mile walking trail.

Field trips that follow the state curriculum are available for elementary-age children.

Admission to the Gardens is free.

Osher Life Long Learning Institute (OLLI)

Based at The University of Alabama, OLLI offers a wide variety of intellectually stimulating, non-credit courses, and learning opportunities designed for people “50 and better.”

OLLI members in Tuscaloosa and Jefferson Counties participate in courses solely for the joy of learning.

OLLI is a membership program where, in addition to educational offerings, members enjoy travel opportunities, socials, and local events. Membership fees are minimal.

Through these programs, OLLI members build a sense of community and camaraderie.

OLLI educational offerings change each semester, which means there is always something new and interesting to learn.
