Hack your walk with Nordic Walking Guy’s 3 rules:
- Walk with purpose!
- Be consistent!
- Remember everything counts but not everything matters!
Nordic walking can be a great social activity for older people, combining physical activity with social interaction. I bookmarked an article suggesting ways older people can make friends.
Main point: “…if you are feeling poor in friendships, the first step is to decide it’s important enough and stretch. All relationships take work, both to begin and to maintain.”
Ideas for making and keeping friends:
- Be long-distance virtual office buddies
- Join neighborhood groups
- Join a church (or mosque or temple or prayer group)
- Look up old lost friends
- Cross political or other lines
- Cultivate people of different generations
- Step over your family’s estrangements and make your own ties
- Offer and ask for help
- Use technology
- Remember birthdays and holidays and notable goals
- Don’t expect too much
If you think about how to put those ideas into action, you’ll see that Nordic walking can have a role in bringing you together with other people.
