Hack your walk with Nordic Walking Guy’s 3 rules:
- Walk with purpose!
- Be consistent!
- Remember everything count’s but not everything matters!
A ScienceAlert article suggests a simple test that relates balance to life span.
Main point: “…being unable to stand on one leg without support for a whole 10 seconds made volunteers 84 percent more likely to die within the following 10 years.”
More about it:
- “Balance is among the first to slide, sending us wobbling some time in our mid-fifties.”
- Participants in the study “were required to stand on their left or right leg for 10 seconds, with their raised foot tucked behind their standing leg, keeping their arms by their sides.”
- “…only 4.5 percent of those who could successfully stand on one leg for a whole 10 seconds passed away, compared with more than 17 percent of those who couldn’t.”
What to do about it: Incorporate balance exercises into your wellness regimen. You can do this on your own or as part of an exercise class.
